Digital destinations should do for now.

For when we don't get to travel freely, crossing borders has to happen online.

Digging among photos in the archives delivered fond memories of forgotten journeys to attractions preferably hidden from any madding crowd. Sticking to the east, the album steered the rendezvous from ocean to ocean, starting on Durban’s beachfront, swiftly gliding round Cape Point to be washed out at Swakopmund along the Namibian coast.

What a delight. No flight delays, late arrivals, bad airline food, crying infants or missing luggage.

The images speak for themselves. One is summoned by the swoosh of the sea. The tide spills over onto the wet sand. Bright beach umbrellas are few and far between. Exquisite shells become collectors’ items. Seagulls impatiently swirl about for leftovers. Boats slowly trail the horizon. The jetty in the distance is a popular late afternoon hangout. There’s a chill in the air. The hovering sun prepares for a spectacular showdown after a blissful day. In this magical place one can remain. The spell of the waves is never-ending.

It is the yellow frisbee that lands at my feet that cracks it.

I have to run for our appointment at that quaint little pizzeria. They serve the best... Never mind. We’ll stow it for another post, another day.
